About Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial osteopathy is a sub-speciality of osteopathy practised by some osteopaths who have done post-graduate training in this area. Cranial osteopathy works by influencing the cranial rhythm which is a delicate and rhythmical shape change that exists in all body tissues. This movement occurs in cycles approximately every 10 seconds and involves involuntary, very low amplitude elongation and narrowing followed by shortening and widening.
Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle treatment which aims to relieve stresses and tensions within the body facilitating the cranial rhythm at its optimal rate, amplitude and uniformity. It usually involves palpation of the skull or sacrum (the back of the pelvis) although the subtle movements can be palpated and treated throughout the body.
Cranial osteopathy can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions or may be used in conjunction with structural osteopathy to achieve the best results. Please feel free to enquire whether it is appropriate for you.
